Pleasant diversions

On Saturday we took a break and decided to take on one of the more touristy things to do in this part of Michigan: a dune ride. After Jane and Susie took a morning walk, we headed over to Mac Woods Dune Rides on the sand dunes around Silver Lake. We only waited about 20 minutes for our ride to start and it turned out to be loads of fun.

Our driver Walter was a man of singular wit with plenty of jokes at the ready. He was also informative and our several stops along the dunes proved informative and enlightening. It also gave Susie the chance to put her feet into the Big Lake. Plus it was a gorgeous day to be outside enjoying the sun, wind and occasional grit of sand stinging the face. From the dune ride we drove over to Little Sable Point lighthouse then then back out of town.

From Silver Lake we made our way over to New Era, not far from Rothbury and stopped at Country Dairy for a sandwich. We also got to spend some time with local New Era wildlife before heading back to Rothbury and the evening’s reunion festivities.
