Julian Olf

Journal entry by Patricia Vandenberg — 19 hours ago from Caring Bridge

Late this afternoon Julian departed to embark on the next phase of his journey. We, his family, release him to that adventure with joy and gratitude for the myriad of blessings he brought to us in his life time. The memories of all the happy times we shared will sustain us as we move on without him.

We thank each of you for your loving support and expressions of appreciation for the stunningly gifted, large-hearted, courageous creative being that was Julian. We plan to have a memorial for him sometime in the future and will alert you through this site.

With love and gratitude,

Patricia, Kimi, Matt, and Tory

Between Two Worlds

The time between life and death is considered extremely sacred in Jewish tradition. On one hand, the passage marks the conclusion of the soul's journey on earth. On the other hand, death heralds the beginning of the soul's eternal life in Heaven.

Kabbalah teaches that at the moment of passing, every positive thought, word, or deed that occurred during the person's life is concentrated into a pristine spiritual light. This light is revealed to the world and in the Heavenly spheres, where it continues to shine and have an effect on those above and below.

So, this is from me. I didn't know Julian as well as many but one thing always struck me about him through the many years since we first met -- he enjoyed the fullness of the world around him and he appreciated and savored life.

I like to think he's spending his time as a flaneur in Paris. Wouldn't you?
