June 24, 1949: Tunis VandenBerg and Bernice Audrey Van Halsema are married in the Calvin College Chapel, Grand Rapids, Michigan. After a reception at Oakdale CRC they head north to honeymoon at the Lamkin Lake Shore Lodge in Good Hart, Michigan. After returning to Grand Rapids they move in with Tunis' brother John and his wife Marian at their home on Adams Street.
At the end of the summer they pack up their few belongings, move to Detroit where Tunis continues medical school at Wayne State, and the two of them start an uncertain but certainly exciting future together.
And their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are mighty happy they did!
